Wax Pendants

Prior to 1893 all the original grants of patents of invention of Great Britain were printed on parchment.

A wax pendant (about 6 inches in diameter) carrying the Great Seal of England was attached by a cord at the bottom of the parchment.

See below for photographs of the wax seal used during the reign of Queen Victoria.

One side of the wax seal shows the Queen on her throne and the reverse side depicts the Queen on horseback.
